Located a scant 55 miles from the coast
of West Palm Beach,
Freeport Lucaya is the Grand Bahama Island's most popular attraction.
Freeport Lucaya is a unique destination.
Visitors will discover a beautiful world-class resort with the charm of historical
fishing villages and undiscovered ecological treasures. Grand Bahama Island has
one of the world's largest underwater cave systems, three national parks, endless
beaches, emerald green water and enchanting marine life.
Freeport's main commercial district is centered on The Mall, located
between Ranfurly Circus - named for a British royal governor who supported the
city's development in the 1950s - and Churchill Square, about ten blocks north.
Here you will find duty-free shops selling Bahamian jewelery, perfume, Cuban cigars,
rum, resort wear and fine crystal. Adjacent
to Freeport, the beachfront hotels of Lucaya comprise a resort area with a cheerful
atmosphere, carefully tended lawns and shrubbery, and tidy, candy-coloured shops
and houses. Lucaya is dominated by the Our Lucaya Beach and Golf Resort and its
two golf courses. Across the street from Our Lucaya is Port Lucaya Marketplace,
a busy, colourful tourist market overlooking the boats at Port Lucaya Marina featuring
shops selling clothing, jewelery, perfume, crystal and china, open-air stalls
displaying straw work and other souvenirs, and several lively restaurants and
bars packed with happy vacationers.
